We welcome back to Northwards House the illustrious South African pianist and Steinway Artist, Ben Schoeman for Night Music: a recital of trios for cello, clarinet, and piano. He is joined by the award-winning cellist Anmari van der Westhuizen and one of South Africa’s most esteemed clarinettists, International Buffet Crampon artist Danré Strydom.
Their programme of “Night Music” will feature Mikhail Glinka’s Trio Pathétique in D minor, John Ireland’s Trio in D minor, Jörg Widmann’s Nachtstück, and Nino Rota’s Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano. You may recognise Nino Rota’s name as the composer of the epic crime film, The Godfather.
The programme is a fascinating pairing of music written in the romantic idiom with its beautiful melodies and rich harmonies and music written in the contemporary music idiom with its angular melodies and tone colours that evoke complex soundscapes.
Ben Schoeman, Anmari van der Westhuizen, and Danré Strydom are celebrated musicians in their own right and a seasoned ensemble that join forces to present this programme of rarely performed music.
Tickets are R150/R200 and are available at Quicket.
We look forward to seeing to you on Sunday September 24th at 3PM at Northwards House at 21 Rockridge Road in Parktown, Johannesburg for another instalment of unforgettable music performed by some of South Africa’s most distinguished musicians.
